About this property

Smugglers Rock is a Georgian Country House built in 1840 as a coaching inn and is now an eight all en-suite bedroom guesthouse, renovated to a very high standard. The house still retains a tiny window in its east wall where smugglers would watch out for the constabulary and shine a light for fellow smugglers as a signal to bring up the contraband! Guests have the use of a spacious open-beamed lounge and an 'olde-worlde' breakfast room, both with wonderful long distance coastal and countryside views. Smugglers Rock is ideally located in Ravenscar (at the southern end of Robin Hoods Bay) and we have wonderful walks on the Cleveland Way, an old railway line and several cycle paths on our doorstep. As we are situated halfway between Scarborough and Whitby (10 & 12 miles respectively), we are perfectly located for exploring the area.

Smugglers Rock is set in 28 acres of farmland with friendly shetland ponies, highland cows, chickens, geese and ducks, and the B&B is ideally situated to explore the coast and the moors. Scarborough, Britain’s first seaside resort, has been welcoming visitors for over 360 years and is still as popular as ever. Scarborough is a great a place to stay for a holiday or short break, with the safe, sandy, accredited North Bay Beach and South Bay Beach being broken by a rocky headland on which stands a reminder of the past, the historic Scarborough Castle. The resort offers first class attractions such as the award winning Sea Life Marine Sanctuary, Scarborough Art Gallery and the newly refurbished Rotunda Museum, along with many festivals, including Seafest, Jazz, Bike week, Scarborough Fayre and the Scarborough Cricket Festival, providing you with all year round events. Alternatively, why not try a short break in one of our cottages - any 3 consecutive nights from only £201. See our separate listing for details or click on our website link
