The Golden Lion Hotel is a unique pub ideally situated within easy, convenient access to both the M62 and the A1(M). Built in the 18th century, this grand old building is full of character. Individual in its own style with cosy offshoot rooms, a beautiful stained glass ceiling mural and original sash windows enclosing the bar servery.
It has a long-standing and coloured history and is the sole surviving Inn of the coaching era of Ferrybridge. Its continued existence was ensured due to the proximity of the River Aire, which during the decline of the other coaching Inns through the 1830’s, enabled a shrewd businessman to use its wharfage facilities and operate it as a “Packet House”. Passed down from Father to Son to Wife, The Golden Lion then became popular for its lodgings, especially with the workers in the glass industry back in the 1800’s. Today The Golden Lion continues its long tradition of welcoming hospitality and now again is a family-run affair.
