Property Information

Sycamore Farm Cottages are three recently restored fully self-contained farm cottages, located in the small hamlet of Farnley Tyas between Huddersfield and Holmfirth in the rural south Pennine area of Yorkshire . In 2010 the cottages have received the Visit Britain Gold Award for the second time. Our three cottages, Sycamore Cottage, The Hayloft and Croft Cottage are available all year round and we can promise you a friendly personal welcome. We are located in attractive countryside, some 10 minutes from Holmfirth and Huddersfield town centres. The major tourist attractions of Leeds, Manchester and York are within easy travelling distance of our accommodation.

Farnley Tyas is a delightful, quiet village in a rural setting and is popular with walkers cyclists and horse riders. At its centre is the Golden Cock pub and restaurant, popular for its situation and views across fields and woods to Huddersfield's famous landmark Castle Hill. Sycamore Farm Cottages are celebrating winning the Silver Award in the Tourist Board's Yorkshire in Bloom Award Ceremony in September, after less than six months in business.

Additional Information

Sycamore Cottage (Sleeps 3) is the original cottage on the site, dating back around 250 years. The adjacent farmhouse was built some years later, and the cottage was sometimes accommodation for farm workers and sometimes for extended family. Downstairs there is a separate kitchen with washing machine, cooker, fridge-freezer and microwave. The living room has a gas coal-effect stove, settee and arm chairs, dining room table and TV and Hi-Fi. Upstairs is a double bedroom with double bed, shower room and a small child's bedroom. The Hayloft (Sleeps 5/6) was for a long time the milking parlour downstairs, then later on became mistals for housing calves, with the hayloft upstairs. The building retains the platform above the doorway, where the hay would be forked in from the top of a haywagon for winter storage. Now The Hayloft is the largest cottage with an l shaped open plan area downstairs comprising of a fitted kitchen with cooker, fridge-freezer and microwave, dining room table, settees and armchairs and a TV and Hi-Fi. There are three bedrooms: one with a double bed, one with twin beds and a third room with single bed and pull-out bed. There is also a bathroom with a bath and overhead shower. Croft Cottage (Sleeps 3) has been a barn, but most recently housed the corn grinder which ground up the barley to be fed to the cows while they were being milked. It is named after the field with the four ancient sycamore trees, which surrounds the house and has always been known as the croft field. The newly restored cottage now features an open plan downstairs ares with two double settees, dining room table, TV and Hi-Fi. A compact kitchen area with cooker, fridge-freezer and microwave and washing machine. Upstairs there is a double bedroom with double bed, a small single bedroom and a bathroom with bath and overhead shower.
