There are lots of excellent places to eat in the evenings within a 10 minute drive, in the charming market town of Helmsley or Ampleforth, with its renowned Benedictine Abbey and boarding school, or in the nearby villages of Oswaldkirk and Gilling. York is half an hour's drive away and so are Castle Howard and the North York Moors, but there are numerous other things to make your holiday or break in Ryedale memorable.
