Iconic Scarborough hotel with an excellent range of en-suite rooms, relaxing lounge areas, bar and restaurant. Spectacular sea views. Short stroll to the beautiful South Bay
With inspirational sea views across the North Sea and Scarborough's magnificent castle headland, it's easy to see how First World War poet Wilfred Owen was inspired to write some of his most famous works at the hotel. In late 1917 Owen was posted to a reserve battalion, based at The Clifton Hotel, (then known as The Clarence Gardens Hotel). Whilst here, he was able to take time away from his clerical duties and escape to his turret bedroom where he produced Miners, the first of his poems to be published.
The Clifton Hotel has 70 well-appointed traditional and contemporary en-suite rooms many of which offer fantastic sea views across North Bay and the castle headland.
