Old Smoke House Cottages in Whitby sit at the very end of the old town's harbour, on the eastern side of the mouth of the River Esk. Our three cottages award-winning cottage include the last cottage before the sea and all offer excellent views of the sea, beach and entrance to the harbour itself. The buildings that now form our comfortably appointed cottage was at one time an old smoke house (hence the name) and have been tastefully converted to offer high quality self catering accommodation for seven, eight and nine guests respectively. We happily accommodate families of various sizes as well as several couples sharing, and if you have a family event or gathering in the area, you can book all three properties together!

An ideal location whatever the season – in summer, for the safe beach just 100 yards from the door, and in winter, for the exhilarating drama of crashing waves and spectacular views. A traditional fishing town with a maritime heritage, Whitby boasts the Captain Cook Museum, craft and antique shops, galleries, jewellers selling the famous Whitby Jet, tea rooms, gourmet fish restaurants, pubs galore and a host of other attractions. Extensive walking can be enjoyed locally on the Cleveland Way cliffs top paths or surrounding moorlands whose pretty villages are also a delight to explore.

Lovingly redeveloped from their former use as a smoke house, each of our self-catering cottages have been furnished and equipped for comfort and relaxation. Nobles Cottage is the smallest of the three, sleeping seven guests in three bedrooms, Bosun's Cottage is next, sleeping up to eight in four bedrooms. The last cottage (the end terrace) is Captain's Cottage, another four bedroom property this time with a maximum occupancy of nine. Each of the cottages has a mixture of double, twin or single rooms (many with en-suite facilities), with z-beds providing additional sleeping accommodation where necessary. All three feature at least one sitting room, boasting comfortable seating for all, wood-burning effect fires and good home entertainment options. There are spacious fitted kitchen/dining rooms in each property with modern appliances for cooking and laundry needs.

With double glazing and central heating, Old Smoke House Cottages are an ideal holiday location whatever the season. The cottages come pre-equipped with clean, fresh bedding free of charge and towels can be supplied for an additional weekly fee. There is on-site, off-street parking for one car per property with additional parking available at a nearby public car park. Travel cots and highchairs can be provided for guests with babies/toddlers, and z-beds for older children, if required.
