Two barn conversions and the original farmhouse, retain much of their original charm and character, with beamed ceilings and original fire places. Both the farmhouse and cottages are on a working farm keeping cattle and sheep; they overlook ancient stone buildings which were once a mill and tannery, and have been worked by the same family for over two centuries. All the cottages are furnished and decorated to the highest standard and make a perfect base from which to explore the surrounding areas, and all three cottages benefit from stunning views - and water-powered electricity!
Surprise View Cottages are based at the lower end of the Farndale valley, famous for it's wild daffodils. The cottages are in an excellent location in the heart of the country, making them ideal for walking, cycling and touring the area but are also within easy reach of York, Whitby and Scarborough. In the local area, visit the village of Gillamoor with it's stunning view, the picturesque village of Hutton-Le-Hole which is home to the Ryedale Folk Museum, and the market town of Kirkbymoorside. The nearby town of Malton is worth visiting for history enthusiasts, as it boasts both a Roman museum and a World War Two museum. York, Whitby and Scarborough are also within an hour's drive, and are ideal for day trips.
Surprise View Cottages - Lowna Farmhouse, sleeps up to 8, and Surprise View Cottage and Field Barn Cottage sleep up to 4; they all have lawned areas looking over fields, woods and the valley of Farndale, and panoramic views down the meandering River Dove. All have super- comfortable double and twin rooms with luxury bathrooms and en-suite showers. Roaring log fires or woodburning stoves greet you and the great thing is that the electricity is powered by a giant water wheel in the heart of the buildings. Whichever cottage you choose you will find that your needs are comprehensively met; comfort is the keyword!
We welcome well-behaved pets to Surprise View Cottages as there are fields around the cottages in which either you or your pets may walk, and you are only 50 yards from the open moors; please ask at time of booking. The cottages each have telephones and laundry facilities; two of the cottages have free broadband access. Guests are asked not to smoke in any of the cottages; outdoor shelters are located nearby.
Lowna Farmhouse can be booked for minimum 3 night breaks any time of year. Smaller cottages are booked weekly, short breaks in low season min 3 nights
