It was at the Wheatsheaf in 1941 that James Herriott and his wife Helen spent their honeymoon. In his book he describes how much they enjoyed the warm hospitality and excellent food. Today it is still a family owned hotel with proprietors Paul and Carol Mitchell offering the best of local cuisine and comfort. There are 12 comfortable centrally heated ensuite rooms with a nicely balanced mix for twin, double or single occupancy.
All have colour TV's and tea/coffee facilities. The public rooms provide the Wheatsheaf with its distinctive character, friendly bar, panelled restaurant and residents lounge with an impressive 17th century arched fireplace. In both the restaurant and bar the meals are served which mix traditional dishes with more cosmopolitan fare.
