The Hall is an ideal base for exploring the local walks of Feizor, Wharfe or the Norber erratics. Alternativley, just relax in the drawing room, reception hall or panelled sitting room, with their roaring log fires, or on the terrace looking over the gardens.
The house was originally built as a pele tower and is said to date from 1180. Little is known of its early history and all that remains of the tower are the six foot thick walls between the entrance hall and the drawing room. In later years, it is said that Winston Churchill stayed at the house whilst on a painting holiday in the area.

Austwick is located a mile off the A65 between Skipton and Kendal. On entering the village pass the village shop and post office on the right, and the pub on the left. Take the first left after the primary school. After about 100 yards, as the road climbs steeply, turn in through the gates on the left.
