We are delighted to have just been awarded Visit York 2010 Finalist for Best Guest House. For the past 10 years we have consistantly been awarded for either Best Guest House or Outstanding Customer Service. This is an achievment we are proud of and try hard each year to maintain. Monkgate Guest House offers a warm welcome to it's guests, within a property which has been renovated with attention to retaining many original features. Monkgate Guest House was originally three cottages built around 1804 for a wood carver and cabinet maker. We are just outside the ancient city walls of York on Monkgate and well situated for York Minster and the main city area so convenient for business or pleasure.
A warm welcome also awaits your children and their Teddies! We provide as many ‘creature’ comforts as possible to make it easier to bring your children on a visit to York. Our family room is on the ground floor and consists of two rooms. The first room has a double bed and then you walk through to a smaller room with twin beds leading to the en-suite shower room with toilet and washbasin. We have tried our best to equip the room with child friendly facilities i.e. small toilet seat, box to reach the loo and washbasin and lower coat hooks and we can provide a travel cot, although we ask you to bring your own cot bedding if possible. We have provided a TV with DVD player for your children to bring their favourite DVD’s and a CD player plus a few family games along with a little table and chairs.

All our bedrooms are individually furnished with colour television and tea and coffee making facilities. Our rooms are en-suite or have private facilities. We also have a ground floor bedroom that can be used as a quiet hideaway for a couple or makes a lovely room for a family of four. Guests can enjoy hearty Full English cooked breakfasts in our cosy breakfast room area. Monkgate Guest House offers easy access to all York centre restaurants, cafes and pubs. Join us for a real home-from-home atmosphere.
