Middlethorpe Hall, York, is a William and Mary country house, close to the city centre. Built in 1699 for Thomas Barlow, a master cutler from Sheffield it was bought and reopened as a luxury hotel in the 1980s. This National Trust property oozes original charm and character and effortlessly combines traditional features with modern amenities. Middlethorpe Hall is renowned for its imaginative cuisine and its panelled dining rooms which overlook the manicured gardens. It also boasts a Health and Fitness Spa built behind the handsome facade of two listed Edwardian cottages.
Middlethorpe Hall overlooks York racecourse and is only a mile and a half from York railway station and the city. Historic York is ideal for business or leisure. York's city walls contain some of the most splendid urban architecture in the British Isles, including York Minster, the Minster Treasurer's House, Fairfax House, the medieval street of The Shambles, the Castle and it's outstanding museum, and a profusion of other fascinating buildings and museums.
The twenty-nine comfortable and fully equipped bedrooms, each decorated individually, are located both in the house and in the attractively restored 18th century courtyard next to it. There are several room types ranging from single rooms to a deluxe suite in the main house. Ten of the rooms are in the main house, seventeen in the 18th Century classical courtyard, as well as a garden suite and two suites in an adjacent cottage.
Residential guests and Club members have full use of the Spa with its indoor swimming pool, whirlpool spa bath, steam room, sauna, gymnasium and club room. Beauty treatments are available for non-residents and non-members. Middlethorpe also combines the comfort and elegance of country house hospitality with the efficiency demanded by modern businesses. Our facilities include the Barlow Room, the Small Meetings Boardroom, and six suites for use as meeting rooms. Please note that we do not have facilities for children under the age of 6.
