The Windmill Bed & Breakfast - Scarborough

18th Century grade II listed windmill, offering superior bed & breakfast accommodation in Scarborough. Close to town centre. Four poster & family suites.

Welcome to The Windmill Bed and Breakfast, situated just a short walk from the town centre, station and the Stephen Joseph Theatre. Set in a quiet cul-de-sac, with some free onsite parking, The Windmill is Scarborough's last remaining windmill and remains an unusual and unique place to stay. The dining room is on the groundfloor in The Windmill where breakfast is served. You can boost your energy levels by choosing from our varied menu, all freshly prepared, whether you are a vegetarian, like Oak Smoked North Yorkshire Kippers, a full English Breakfast or just want something in between. We cater for special diets but ask for a little notice beforehand.

Originally built in open countryside, a Windmill played a very important role in the English Civil War when Scarborough was besieged in 1645. The windmill based here was used by Parliament's General Sir John Meldrum as an artillery observation post. Since then, Scarborough has expanded and grown and now The Windmill is just a short walk from all the town centre has to offer. Parking at The Windmill and walking into town couldn't be easier with restaurants, shops, supermarkets and bars all within easy reach of the property.

Rooms Description

Based around a cobbled courtyard, we have a selection of rooms, all en-suite with either bath and overhead shower or walk-in showers. We have seven rooms on the ground floor ranging from a standard double, twin and a four poster family room - two rooms interconnected - for families with a maximum of two children from 3-13 years. Our premier Madeline Room with a king-size bed is also on the ground floor along with our deluxe king-size four poster room, nicely tucked away in a secluded and pretty corner. On the first floor, overlooking the courtyard from a veranda we have three more premier king-size four-poster rooms and all come complete with remote control LCD TVs with free view and hospitality tray.

Specialities

For something completely different, we also have two Suites in The Windmill itself. External steps take you up to the Balcony Suite on the fourth and fifth floors with exclusive use of the balcony where you can walk all the way round The Windmill and experience the 360 degree views over the town and countryside. This Balcony Suite is for adults only who have a head for heights! Based on two floors with internal stairs, the suite comprises a bedroom with king-size divan bed and en-suite shower room on one floor. On the floor above, there is a compact open plan lounge/dining room, remote control LCD 26" TV with free view and DVD Player and kitchen with fridge, microwave and conventional oven. On the second and third floors below is the Family Suite. Accessed by 13 steps from the courtyard, this Suite caters for a maximum of two adults and two children 0-13 years. One floor contains a spacious open plan lounge with dining area and kitchen and on the floor above, reached by internal stairs, is the family bedroom with double bed and bunk beds for the children. The en-suite facilities provide a corner bath with hand shower, hand basin and toilet.

Directions

By Car : A64 – Scarborough Road – Follow signs for North Bay. Pass football stadium opposite “Curry’s”. Continue on this road (passing through two sets of lights, one pedestrian). At the third set of traffic lights (major junction) turn right onto Falsgrave Road. Pass Sainsbury’s entrance (traffic lights) on the left and continue just a little further on and turn left into Victoria Road. As you enter Victoria Road the road forks into two – you need to bear right and Mill Street is the third turning on the left-hand side (only about 50 yards from the Victoria Road turning) and just before the green painted house and “The Tile and Bathroom Centre.” The road is not easy to see as a pavement passes over it so when entering Victoria Road it is wise to drive quite slowly. The Windmill is at the end of Mill Street and impossible to miss! From the Station : On foot – Leave the station and turn sharp left for approximately 80 meters. Cross the road to Belle Vue Parade which runs along the right side of the large Methodist Church. At the end of Belle Vue Parade turn left along Victoria Road. Mill Street is the second right, just after the Tile and Bathroom Centre. The Windmill is at the end of Mill Street and impossible to miss.
