Visit Websitefor more informationBitchagreen Cottage is located in the beautiful valley of Farndale, close to the little market towns of Kirkbymoorside and Helmsley. The cottage sits back from the road, among green fields, flower and vegetable gardens with safe parking for visitors and breathtaking panoramic views over the valley. Famous for its wild daffodils in spring, purple heather in August, birds, wildlife and peace always, Farndale is a walker's paradise and an ideal base for touring the North York Moors and coast.
Staying at Bitchagreen Cottage is a truly special experience, with its beautiful surroundings, quiet privacy, cosiness and tactful attention to detail. When you can drag yourself away from the cottage itself, there is plenty to see and do in the area. Major award winning Hutton-le-Hole Outdoor Folk Museum (4m), Danby Moors Centre (6m), beautiful abbeys and churches (Rievaulx, Lastingham), Helmsley with its castle and fine food shops, Castle Howard, North York Moors Steam Railway at Pickering, Dalby Forest and the coast (21m) Whitby, Staithes, Robin Hoods Bay. Or do a rag rug day course in Farndale!
This simple, clean, light accommodation with its pine beams, has lovely views of hills and garden from every window. A private guest entrance, hallway and stairs lead to a twin room with its own adjoining bathroom and a single with private shower-room. The guest sitting/dining room has cosy armchairs, woodburning stove, lots of books, scrabble and generous all day comfort trolley! The cottage has oil-fired central heating in cold weather and drying facilities.
The delightful River Dove, with its famous wild daffodils in Spring and leading to the local inn, is just 10 minutes walk through the fields. Footpaths abound and a set of walk sheets, beginning and ending at the cottage (1/2-6 hrs) include a short, early morning climb, ideal before a Bitchagreen breakfast! Dry-cured bacon, local sausages, our own fresh eggs, jams, tomatoes and fruit in season, plus my special potato, herb and lentil cakes for vegetarians.
