Ashes Common Farm is situated near Castle Hill, Almondbury, surrounded by fields and with magnificent views over Huddersfield and the tributary valleys. The origins of the farm date back to the 17th century. The cruck frame and rafters of Cruck Cottage date from this period, whilst the timber framework of The Barn House is listed as early 18th century. Both buildings were formerly outbuildings of a typical dairy farm, but have been transformed in recent years to make two very attractive, individual holiday cottages.
The Barn House has all the original pillars and roof timbers and provide one of the main attractions of the large living room. This has a solid oak floor, antique Persian rugs and is furnished with a gas fired stove, comfortable chairs and sofas (one a double sofa-bed), an oak refectory table, occasional tables, a colour television, video and a telephone. This kitchen is also very well equipped with all modern facilities & utensils. From electric coffee filter to tea strainer, from wooden spoon to garlic press you should find everything you require. The whole house is centrally heated and hot water is constantly available. Cruck Cottage has cruck beam & roof timbers making an attractive framework for the living room of the cottage. It is well furnished with a comfortable sofa and chairs, a polished beech dining table, coffee table, LCD television and DVD player. There is a gas fire in the living room in addition to the central heating. The kitchen area has a gas cooker, microwave oven, fridge/freezer, electric coffee filter, kettle, toaster and a full range of cooking utensils. There is an automatic washing machine, tumble drier, iron/ironing board. The cottage has central heating throughout, and a payphone is installed.
