Abbots Thorn is a delightful ETC 4 diamond graded guesthouse, voted 'Best B&B' by the readers of Country Walking magazine. The guesthouse is set in a charming small village in the Yorkshire Dales known as Coverdale, which is located between lively Hawes and Leyburn. We're in the heart of 'Herriot Country', and Carlton is Coverdale's principal village consisting of about 80 houses, its own pub and we're an ideal base for walking, hiking, fishing or touring in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park. Abbots Thorn is a 200 year old, traditional, stone-built, former Dales farmhouse that reputedly has the only round chimney stacks in the Dales. The house has been lovingly converted into a warm and comfortable B&B. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate children under 12, but we do welcome well behaved dogs. For the comfort of all we are a no smoking B&B.

We're a cosy guesthouse with three beautifully appointed guest rooms. Two have en-suite facilities and all rooms feature country pine furniture, full central heating and tea and coffee making facilities with biscuits and fresh milk. All rooms have a colour television and each room has a large window. Two rooms have window seats so that you can enjoy the stunning views of Coverdale that unfold from our sunny, south facing location. Relax and enjoy a full country breakfast featuring traditional, local produce in our informal dining room. For those with a lighter appetite we have a varied breakfast menu, including our famous continental basket with home-made baked goods. The B&B is perfectly located for walkers, and we are happy to supply packed lunches on request. The guesthouse also has a stunning oak beamed guest lounge where you can enjoy coffee, mints and liqueurs in front of an open fire. If required, dinner is available each evening, except Sunday and Wednesday, offering you good, locally sourced, home-cooked food.
