Visit Websitefor more informationHistoric Thornton Watlass Hall is set within five acres of gardens in estate parkland on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The Hall is ideally placed for exploring Yorkshire, and is located just 11 miles North of Ripon, 4 miles from the A1, 11 from the main railway line at Northallerton and 18 from Teeside Airport. York, Harrogate and Leeds are all within easy reach to the south. The Hall's interior is splendidly unspoilt and furnished with antiques and character touches. The Hall has also been featured over the years on different television dramas such as All Creatures Great and Small, Wuthering Heights and Heartbeat.
The hall stands at the North end of Thornton Watlass village in a large park, and a garden area of about four and a half acres. It consists of a main block on the South side, with wings running North on the East and West sides. It is built of stone from various sources, with the walls about 3ft thick. Why not relax in our beautiful rose garden and gardens surrounding the hall. Other rooms to explore in the hall include The Drawing Room and The Billiard Room. There is also an extensive library with books on many subjects, having been collected by members of the family for the last 400 years, a few going back to the 16th century. Though still occupied as a private home, Thornton Watlass Hall caters for guests, with luxurious rooms, all refurbished to the highest standards. We are licensed to serve drinks to guests. David and Liz Smith-Dodsworth look forward to greeting you at their family home.
All rooms include luxury antique furnishings and are individually decorated. Among the choice of rooms are The Pink room, The Katherine Parr room, or the light and airy Yellow bedroom. Each room has been sympathetically modernized, yet all retain their historic character. All rooms have their own bathroom, television with Freeview and DVD player, fridge, phone, coffee/tea making facilities and free access to a wireless internet connection.
If you're looking for luxury and history combined then Thornton Watlass Hall is for you. The present Thornton Watlass Hall dates from the 15th century, "modernised" in the early 18th century, but the site and surrounding land have the distinction of having been held by the same family from the time of King Canute, about 1020AD to the present day. Well behaved dogs are welcome. We can also accommodate helicopters.
We are closed from the end of October until after Easter.
