    Property Information

Sycamore Barn is an imaginative barn conversion which utilises its four levels and open roof beams to stunning effect. This spacious barn, part of a hamlet which was once known as "Sycamore Farm", is situated in the village of Lower Cumberworth. Cumberworth dates back to the Domesday Book, when it was then known as "Cubreuuord", inhabited by folk from Cumbria. At the present day, Lower Cumberworth is a small village with a population of about 300, set in the rolling countryside of West Yorkshire. The villages of Denby Dale and Skelmanthorpe, where there are local shops, are approximately 1-2 miles distant. The village has a Methodist church and a public house, "The Foresters" which serves good country fare and has a family room.

Nearby, there are many attractions. The National Mining Museum, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, equestrian centre and a variety of golf courses are within half an hour's drive. There are numerous local footpaths and tranquil walks and the Pennines, with its expansive moors, are only a short distance away. One of the best restaurants in Yorkshire is in the nearby village of Shelly. "The Three Acres" is open for lunch and dinner and is a gourmet's delight. Holmfirth, made famous by the "Last of the Summer Wine" television series, is located five miles away, where one can visit the sites, including Nora Batty's house and the famous cafe.

    Additional Information

From the right of the main door, a small flight of stairs leads down to four bedrooms. On the left is a double room with double bed and ample wardrobe space. Further down the corridor is the master bedroom with on-suite shower and toilet room. Again, there is a double bed with ample cupboard space. On the right of the corridor is a utility room with a toilet, washing machine, sink and wash basin. Facing that is the family bath room with bath, shower and toilet. Adjacent are two single rooms which can be converted into double rooms if the need arises. One of these contains a cot. To the left of the main door, there is a well stocked kitchen with dishwasher, large oven, fridge and microwave. At the far end of the kitchen is a glass door which leads out into a small private garden which contains a garden table, bench and two chairs. Directly in front of the main door, a small flight of stairs leads up to an impressive open beamed sitting room. This contains a sofa, armchairs and buffet, a colour television and video player. Within this area is a further level which is the dining room. Here there is a large oak table and chairs, a stately desk and a music player. A small door from the sitting room gives access to an under roof area which contains a large freezer.

    Specialities

As the local walks are so enjoyable for people with dogs, we allow pets but ask that all pets are clean and dry when permitted to go into the sitting and dining rooms. We also ask that no pets are allowed into the bedrooms. Sycamore Barn has two wood burning stoves, one in the oak beamed lounge and the other in the spacious kitchen. Wood for these can be purchased at a reasonable cost. Clean bed linen, hand and tea towels are provided. We ask you to bring your own bath towels and that you strip the beds, leaving the linen folded on the top before departure.
