It's also the perfect base from which to branch out and explore the scenic North York Moors National Park and the "Heritage Coast". Alum Cottage is just a short drive from picturesque Runswick Bay, the extensive beach at Sandsend and popular Whitby.

The cottage oozes charm and character, and was originally built to store Alum mined nearby. Prior to its renovation it was used as a local fisherman's warehouse, and now it is comfortably furnished and tastefully decorated to a high standard. Care has been taken in it's design to create a warm, cosy and relaxing atmosphere offering superior accommodation to guests, and a real home from home base. Inside, there is a bright double height living room which features a beamed ceiling, a superb natural sandstone wall, a gas fuelled '˜live-coal' stove, TV / DVD player and radio / CD player. A well-equipped kitchen provides electric cooker, microwave, fridge, kettle, and a toaster. The dining area has a pine table and four chairs.
