Bower Bank is the perfect place for a cosy, environmentally friendly holiday or short break. DALES WAY WALKERS VERY WELCOME. A former recording studio belonging, to Mike Harding the comedian, folk singer, writer and broadcaster, the barn is situated amidst outstanding natural beauty in the sleepy hamlet of Gawthrop, just one mile from the pretty village of Dent. Now converted into a beautiful self catering holiday home for between two and 10 people, with additional accommodation available in our nearby annexe. Although this is a self catering holiday home, freshly baked rolls and croissants included in the price are available daily. We also provide breakfast cereal, selection of teas, coffee, milk, sugar and jam, also included in the price.
Dent, south of Sedbergh is brimming with historic interest with its traditional cobbled streets and pink granite fountain. There is the Church of St Andrew dating back to the 12th Century that is well worth a visit, along with The Dent Heritage Centre and The Dent Brewery that produces award winning ales. Other nearby places of interest include Abbot Hall Art Gallery, Farfield Mill Arts & Heritage Centre, Low Sizergh barn, Museum of Lakeland Life, The Quaker Tapestry Exhibition and more. Guests can also venture out to Kirkby Lonsdale - a beautiful market town and Kendal - the southern gateway to the Lake District, to name just a couple. For transport, indulge in a sensational trip on the Settle and Carlisle Railway nearby.
The barn comprises of an open plan lounge and dining area with high beamed ceilings, large comfortable sofas, a flat screen colour television, DVD player, a large antique dining table and a woodburning stove. There is also a selection of books, board games, DVDs and even a dressing up box for children. The kitchen comprises of a double oven cooker, a fridge/freezer, ironing facilities and crockery. A service laundry wash is also available. There are two family sized rooms, both having spectacular views of the Dentdale Vally. The ground floor room has a double bed and a set of bunk beds. All beds have a memory foam mattress and various blankets and pillows are available. There are also en-suite facilities with sink. W/C and shower. The first floor bedroom has three sets of bunk beds and two lots of en-suite facilities - a sink, W/C in one and a sink, W/C and shower in the other. All beds are made up on arrival and bedding is included in the tariff. Additional accommodation is available in the annexe which is located in the neighbouring farmhouse (next door to the barn) and is available for those parties requiring three separate sleeping areas. Breakfast to be taken with the main party. This additional accommodation comprises a twin bedded room enjoying fabulous views, with private shower/w.c. and own entrance. This suite is often booked as overflow accommodation for the barn, but is occasionally available separately and is charged at £27pppn based on two persons sharing. Continental breakfast products as per Ecobarn. Single occupation is charged at £32 per night.
Bower Bank is an impressive EcoBarn and helps to look after the environment by heating the barn and water with a ground source heat pump, as well as this the rainwater is harvested and provides water to flush the barn's four W/C's. Additionally there is extensive use of Sheep's wool insulation, the kitchen is made from recycled church pews and extensive recycling facilities are available. We are grateful to all our guests for their support and would like to thank them for all the recycling they continue to do, for using our great local shop whenever they can and for setting aside any unused beds/bedding/towels. We estimate that the latter item has saved some thirty+ wash loads in the last year. Thankyou.
