Visit Websitefor more informationBuilt in 1895 by Sea Captain John Trattles, Roraima House is named after his Steamship and is located at the top end of this picturesque former fishing village, with far reaching views over Boulby Cliff ( the highest point on the East Coast of England ) and the sea beyond. Roraima House was lovingly refurbished in 2009 by Sandra & Stuart, whilst maintaining the superb stained glass windows and Victorian architectural features the house was brought up to date to provide 3/4 en-suite guest rooms. Afternoon tea & homemade cakes are served in the impressive dining room which also also serves as a lounge and library with many books featuring the local area. Roraima House is filled with period furniture and art work. The priority of Sandra & Stuart is to offer 1st Class service and are always willing to help with advice & pass on knowledge of the coast & North York Moors to enhance the enjoyment of your stay. This is our home and we look forward to letting you share it with us.
Roraima House, at the top end of the village of Staithes offers free parking and is a short 5 minute walk down to the harbour & sea front. Staithes is at the most North Easterly point of North Yorkshire & is famed for it's association with Captain Cook, the Staithes group of artists and it's long past history of fishing. The village is a collection of mainly small old fishermans cottages clinging to the sides of the steep cliffs. This offers picturesque and interesting views of higgledy-piggledy cottages, courtyards, snickets & alleys. It is now very much a tourist centre with shops, gallery, pubs, eating places & welcoming local residents. Another unique feature of the village is that whilst located on the East Coast it lies at an aspect which benefits from impressive sunrises and sunsets, the latter especially dramatic from the guest rooms at Roraima.
All rooms benefit from far reaching views as mentioned above. On the first floor we have two spacious double rooms. Bedroom 1 offers a four poster king size bed, two arm chairs and a large en-suite bathroom with a large walk-in shower & roll-top bath. The other double also offers arm chairs & en-suite with large walk-in shower. Both rooms offer TV/DVD & tea/coffee making facilities. On our Top Floor we have an apartment which can cater for four, either family or four friends, utilising a spacious double and twin room. It also offers a bathroom with bath & shower over and has the benefit of a lounge, dining/kitchen with TV/DVD.
Sandra & Stuart pride themselves on their one-to-one service with guests. Breakfasts consist of cereals, juices, fruit and freshly baked bread along with traditional cooked ingredients which are sourced locally (where possible) Sandra herself is a vegetarian & does not believe vegetarian breakfast is just an extra egg & tomato! Each afternoon home-made cakes and tea are served in the dining room or garden, this normally gives the opportunity for guests to meet and talk to each other in a relaxed homely atmosphere.
