The location is fantastic for people who love to walk and appreciate history and sightseeing. Situated in Swaledale you can visit Richmond which is viewed as the capital of the area and is known for its traditional cobbled street, Georgian house and Yorkshire charm that makes it a great place to visit. It also has the Richmondshire museum where you can learn more about the area and visit the surgery set from the area famous TV series 'All creatures great and small'. There is the Georgian Theatre Royal which has been ever present since 1788 and is award winning. It is also the most complete running Georgian Theatre in Britain today and makes for a great days entertainment. Fishing, golf, riding and swimming are all activities that the area is brilliant and there are fantastic walks in Swaledale and Wensleydale with historic buildings such as Richmond castle and Easby Abbey. All in all there is plenty to do in this beautiful area, awarded Best Town in Britain 2009, and The Frenchgate Restaurant & Hotel offers the very best dining and accommodation experience to go with it.
There are nine rooms in the hotel that comprise of a mixture of single, twin, double and suites, all of which have en-suite facilities with power showers and baths. All rooms are individually furnished and very stylish with some of the largest beds in the UK, including the famous Mousey Thompson Suite with its 1.5 tonne solid oak four poster bed! All rooms have retained original features including original fireplaces as well as stunning en suite bath / shower / wet rooms with heated solid marble flooring, limestone walls, deep, fluffy white towels and White Co. Toiletries which add the extra luxury. On top of this there are some stunning views on offer toward the river and private gardens.
We do not do big, but The Frenchgate Restaurant & Hotel do small very well. Just the very best, quiet, relaxed "Dinner, Bed & Breakfast" along with special, personal service and attention to detail.
