Scarboroughs South Bay beach can now boast European Blue Flag status! Offering self catering accommodation for up to 6 guests - 4 (+ double sofa bed) the cottage was newly refurbished for the 2010 holiday season. Nestled beneath the castle ramparts and the foot of the steps leading to St Mary's Church, the famous resting place of author Anne Bronte, the cottage offers the perfect accommodation for a family holiday, quality time with friends or a romantic retro retreat.
Whilst being very close to all the varied amenities Scarborough has to offer the cottage is located on a car free lane and is surprisingly peaceful and quiet. Access is at street level so ideal for buggies/pushchairs and wheelchair access. There are numerous restaurants, cafes and pubs all within a 5 minute walk as well as the market vaults and town centre which offer a great mix of local shops. The train station is just a very short walk away. Scarboroughs attractions now include a new open air theatre as well as the more traditional seaside trappings of days on the beach, amusements, donkey rides and fishing trips. The Luna Park fun fair, Peasholme Park are just a short distance away or you can hop on the open top bus to take you there. For visitors who love to be scared, Scarborough provides daily ghost tours which run through the summer months highlighting the scariest locations in the town, you can visit the mysterious Hairy Bob's Cave and the imposing ruins of Scarborough Castle. Families can visit nearby Flamingo Land, the Scarborough North Bay miniature railway and don't forget Scarborough is only a short drive away from Whitby and the North Yorkshire Moors.
Brontes Rest is a detached double fronted cottage. Access is at street level and the accommodation is set over two floors. On the ground floor there is a cosy yet spacious living area with a real open fire, perfect for cosy winter evenings in. The room also has a Freeview TV/DVD/radio and a selection of books of local interest. This room leads out to the small open patio area where there is room to enjoy an alfresco meal or glass of wine in privacy. Please note this area is shared with our neighbours and we ask all guests to respect their privacy. There is also room for you to hang your washing! The kitchen/dining area is well equiped with gas cooker (double oven), microwave, toaster, washing machine, fridge (with small freezer box) and an ample farmhouse table and chairs to enjoy a nice meal around. The bathroom/wet room is located on the ground floor too and contains a shower (there is no bath), loo and sink. Stairs lead to the first floor where you will find two lovely spacious double bedrooms. Bedroom one has two single beds and a lovely feature large Victorian wardrobe and original fireplace. Bedroom two houses a fabulous Victorian double bed with the original build in cupboard for clothes storage. The cottage is light, sunny and airy and has lots of quirky features.
We are wheelchair/disabled friendly (kitchen + bathroom on ground floor with a bed sofa so no need to go upstairs), children are very, very welcome and we are also gay friendly. The cottage is non smoking throughout (an ash tray is provided in the patio area!) Small, well behaved pets are welcome on the ground floor only at an additonal cost of £15.00 per pet. Please note pets are not allowed to use the outdoor area at the back of the cottage that is shared with our neighbours. There is parking available in close proximity - daily permits can be provided by prior arrangement free of charge at the time of booking on a first come first served basis for one car only. It is possible to un load luggage at the cottage and then park close by. We also provide your first basket for fuel for the log fire (there are also Baxi gas heaters in each room) plus tea, coffee, sugar and a welcome basket with all the essentials to keep you going until you can get to the shops (this applys to weekly booking only). All linen, towels (not beach towels) and gas and electricty is included in our rates. We offer good value for money in nice surroundings. The cottage is owned and managed by three generations of the same native Scarborian family.
