Two miles north of Whitby on the Yorkhshire Coast, Sandsend nestles under Lythe Bank and Mulgrave Woods. It boasts a wonderful sandy beach and visitors will enjoy the popular beach walk to Whitby, and some excellent countryside rambles. The village has several teashops, excellent restaurants, two pubs and a good shop. There is a regular bus service to Whitby and to Runswick Bay to the north
Both Craigmore and The Porthole are approached via a private lane (called The Lane) just off the A174 in Sandsend. Approaching from the Whitby end of the village, go over the first bridge and after about 40 metres there is a "Slow Concealed Entrance" sign on your left. The Lane is about another 40 metres round the bend in the main road, on your left hand side. It is a sharp 180 degree turn, and looks at first as if you are going to a garage. Follow The Lane up the hillside.
