Email Enquiryfor more informationThe Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway was built in 1888 and today offers visitors the chance to enjoy a variety of steam experiences to delight all ages. Travel between Embsay Staion and the award winning station at Bolton Abbey and take a trip back in time to the days of steam travel. Steam trains run every Sunday, with Summer services up to 7 days a week and the railway features a year round programme of special events.
The Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway journey takes you through picturesque Yorkshire Dales scenery. Bolton Abbey station is the ideal stopping off point for a pleasant one and a half mile walk to the ruins of the 12th Century priory or venture a little further to picnic on the banks of the River Wharfe, or in the shade of Strid Wood where you will find the Cavendish Pavillion for refreshments. Refreshments are available in the tearooms at Bolton Abbey and Embsay stations. Both feature gift shops, including the famous bookshop at Embsay station. Special Events take place throughout the year featuring events for the family and enthusiasts alike. These include Days out with Thomas, All Aboard with Ivor the Engine, 1940s Weekend, Harvest of Steam, Diesel Gala and Santa Trains.

In addition to the steam services, there are Diesel services, Stately Trains and Special Events.
