Stunning natural cave in the Yorkshire Dales. See underground streams, waterfalls and the breathtaking Battlefield Cavern. Gift shop on site. Groups welcome.
Treat the family to an unforgettable day at the White Scar Cave in Ingleton. Join us on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, at the UK's longest show cave, for an underground adventure that's sure to take your breath away. Be amazed by the waterfalls that thunder into deep, rocky pools and cascade over the cave's walls. See stalactites and stalagmites formed over thousands of years, squeeze through narrow gaps and emerge into echoing, open caverns. Gaze in awe at the distinctive face on the rock wall, and eventually make your way back to the surface for drinks and snacks in our on-site cafe.
The White Scar Cave was formed over 1 million years ago, but only discovered in 1923 by student Christopher Long. The entrance to the cave was narrow at the time, and Long explored in an attempt to reach the waters that roared within. He returned and swam the cave's lakes in an attempt to discover even more of their mystery. Sadly, Long died the following year though the cave was opened to visitors from April 1925, with the help of Lieutenant Colonel Geoffrey Smith. Nearing a century after the cave's initial discovery, it's one of the most popular UK attractions. Join us, and see what others have described as 'truly magical' and 'a must see'.
