Kirkstall Abbey is one of the most complete examples of a medieval Cistercian abbey in Britain, and is an excellent visitor attraction for the whole family near Leeds. The abbey is set in beautiful parkland along the banks of the River Aire and offers stunning historic architecture amid a haven of wildlife and greenery. Learn all about what life was like for a 12th century monk in our visitor centre, which has interactive displays, reconstructions and audio visual presentations. After exploring all about the history of the site, enjoy a stroll through the beautifully landscaped gardens and have a picnic next to the river.

The abbey dates back to 1152, and has recently benefited from a £5.5m lottery investment. A range of events are held throughout the year the Abbey including guided tours and seasonal events such as craft fayres and carol singing. Combine your visit to Kirkstall Abbey with a visit to the Abbey House Museum, which has recreated Victorian streets and an interactive childhood gallery, and much more.
