See our cooks prepare authentic medieval food over open fires and join the household as they take time from their work to enjoy a moment of music and dance. Watch as the soldiers put on their armour and invite you to learn some of their drill as they train to go into battle.
Sir John Savile’s Household is a Fifteenth Century re-enactment group portraying the life of a small household during the Wars of the Roses. We authentically recreate the life, sounds, smells and crafts from the later Middle Ages, which are carefully researched by our members. Sir John Savile was a Yorkshire knight during the Wars of the Roses who lived at the manor of Thornhill near Dewsbury in West Yorkshire. He would have had a variety of men, women and children who were his servants and craftsmen supplying his household with their day to day needs such as food, ale and clothing. In times of war, Sir John would have employed members of his household as soldiers, wielding the fearsome English bill and shooting the deadly English bow.
