Step back in time Below Stairs to see how the servants lived and how the cook provided meals for everyone in the household. There are free House talks every day at 3pm. When you’ve built up an appetite, tempt your taste buds at either the Terrace Cafe or The Courtyard, or even visit Below Stairs for cookery demonstrations and tastings on certain days. The beautiful gardens are a great place to relax and watch the wildlife of Yorkshire. Visit the Terrace, with its restored Victorian Parterre, flower borders and panoramic views over the beautiful 'Capability' Brown parkland. Harewood Bird Garden is one of England's most important avian collections, with over 90 species of birds housed in sympathetic surroundings. Over a third of the birds are classed as near threatened, vulnerable, endangered & critically threatened in the wild in the iucn listings. There is a wide variety of birds to see at Harewood from Java Sparrows to Ostrich, Penguins, Flamingos, Macaws and Red Kites. Visitors can wander through gardens past aviaries and enclosures which are home to birds from Africa, the Americas, Australasia and Indo-China. The sloping site offers magnificent views across the lake and visitors are able to view the many species of waterfowl that naturally congregate on the water as well as the many Red Kites flying above.
