Beautiful gardens, cafe and tearooms, fantastic bird garden with regular feeding times, free guided tours, adventure playground and so much more. Harewood House & Gardens boasts magnificent interiors by Robert Adam, furniture by Thomas Chippendale and paintings by jmw Turner, Reynolds, Titian and El Greco, among others. That’s not all. Harewood is just as much about today as it is about history. There are exhibitions of contemporary art, an award-winning educational department and gardens overseen by the Professional Gardener of the Year. If you love art or gardens or walks in the English countryside, or if you’re looking for a family day out, a cultural experience or a romantic afternoon, come to Harewood. We think you‘ll be delighted! An Italianate Terrace, designed by Sir Charles Barry, stretches along the South Front of the House and provides stunning views of Lancelot 'Capability' Brown's landscape and lake. The collection of paintings, furniture and porcelain is as fine as any in the land, and the setting is Yorkshire’s most beautiful landscape.

Unique Features

Visit Harewood House to soak up its rich history and enjoy the magnificent art collections on the State Floor. Step back in time Below Stairs to see how the servants lived and how the cook provided meals for everyone in the household. There are free House talks every day at 3pm. When you’ve built up an appetite, tempt your taste buds at either the Terrace Cafe or The Courtyard, or even visit Below Stairs for cookery demonstrations and tastings on certain days. The beautiful gardens are a great place to relax and watch the wildlife of Yorkshire. Visit the Terrace, with its restored Victorian Parterre, flower borders and panoramic views over the beautiful 'Capability' Brown parkland. Unwind in the tranquillity of the Harewood Himilayan Garden with its waterfall, bridges and Bhutanese Stupa. Discover the Walled Garden, where organic vegetables and fruit trees grow. You will also find our beehives here as well. There is a wide range of open-air events: from concerts to kite festivals, from car rallies to craft fairs. Specialities

Harewood Bird Garden is one of England's most important avian collections, with over 90 species of birds housed in sympathetic surroundings. Over a third of the birds are classed as near threatened, vulnerable, endangered & critically threatened in the wild in the iucn listings. There is a wide variety of birds to see at Harewood from Java Sparrows to Ostrich, Penguins, Flamingos, Macaws and Red Kites. Visitors can wander through gardens past aviaries and enclosures which are home to birds from Africa, the Americas, Australasia and Indo-China. The sloping site offers magnificent views across the lake and visitors are able to view the many species of waterfowl that naturally congregate on the water as well as the many Red Kites flying above.

Harewood is now open 7 days a week (except Weds 4th August) until 31st October
