Property Information

If you’re after a thrilling day out while you’re staying in York you should take the York Viking Walk, a superb guided day out taking in all of York’s Viking attractions. The Vikings first seized control of this historic city in the 9th century, and they helped to transform York into the place it is today. You’ll find out all about how the Viking’s fought their way into power and how they managed to rule much of England for over three centuries.

The walk is led by one Simon Grey, the bestselling author of the children’s books ‘The Last Vikings’ and ‘The Return of Sigurd the Dragon Slayer’, as well as having been a York native for over 20 years. Our tour begins to the back of the All Saints Church on Parliament Street, before leading you on an hour and fifteen minute long walk around the city centre. Simon will tell you all about the Viking king of York, Erik Bloodaxe, including how his grizzly name came about, and will take you right the way through the Viking halls of history to tell you all about how they were ousted by the Normans during the Norman Conquest.

Unique Features

The York Viking Walk is ideal for families, and is both educational and fun. Children will love hearing all about our historic city, although parents will find it equally entertaining. Our tour runs in all weathers as well, so you can always experience the excitement of Viking York.
