Yorkshire Nightlife

There's everything you'll need for a great night out in Yorkshire. Nightlife in Yorkshire has changed from the days when you thought of dark traditional pubs where the regulars sup real ale. These days there are stacks of choice of trendy and late night bars in Yorkshire not just in the cities like Leeds, Sheffield and York but right across the county from West Yorkshire to the coast.

Yorkshire's late bars open well into the night and often have nightclubs next door so you can party all night! Yorkshire nightclubs are some of the best in the country. Gatecrasher started in Sheffield and still holds regular dance nights in the city. There's also Gatecrasher Leeds - the party capital of Yorkshire. The Other Side Comedy Club stages regular comedy shows at various locations along the Yorkshire Coast including Scarborough, Hull, Scunthorpe, Grimsby, Louth, Thirsk and Redcar. Leeds and Sheffield have a great gay night club scene with both bars and clubs offering chic surroundings, cocktails and live music and guest djs. Mission is a key part of the city's gay scene and has recently undergone a million pound revamp. It's one of Leeds' premier clubs with acclaimed nights like Kissdafunk. Other gay friendly night clubs and bars in Leeds include Bar Fibre, The Queens Court and The Loft, My House, Mook and Blayds Bar.

At the core of Leeds' label as a Gastro City and 24 hour city is the fantastic choice of bars in Leeds city centre. Sheffield Nightlife

Nights out in Sheffield are second only to Leeds. The most famous of nightclubs in Sheffield is Gatecrasher that started in Sheffield. Corporation is critically acclaimed as offering a truly alternative venue for rock club nights and live music. The Leadmill host club nights and up and coming live music acts. The Sheffield O2 Academy not only hosts a great event listing of live music acts but also hosts Sheffield's biggest weekly club night, Transmission. The city's gay scene is centred around a number of Sheffield nightclubs and bars across the city. Club Xes is Sheffield's long standing gay club venue and has a range of theme nights, open throughout the week, including transvestite and fetish nights. Gay club nights are popular at venues such as Climax at Sheffield University Student Union. Pink Orchis on Caver Street has the Pink club night on a Tuesday and Fairy Likuid is another popular gay club night.

Live music is key to Sheffield's culture having spawned acts like Pulp, the Arctic Monkeys and Reverend and the Makers. The Sheffield Arena and Don Valley Stadium are both large venues in the city that host artists' world tours. York Nightlife

Within the city walls there are a few nightclubs in York offering a range of city night life. Nightlife in York ranges from dance nights to indie and chart music in dedicated York nightclubs or bars. Tru Nightclub is open six days a week and has several rooms with four bars. Music on offer ranges from chart party, RnB, funky house to Indie and 1970's/1980's disco! Ziggys nightclub is laid out over three floors with 23 bars! Each floor has a different theme and all kinds of music are played on different nights throughout the week. There's also a private lap dancing room. Club Salvation has recently had a revamp with amazing lighting and decor and a rooftop smoking terrace. The Basement at The Gallery nightclub specialises in RnB and urban music and guest DJs offer a range of different music throughout the week. Toffs nightclub has a range of promotional drinks offers during the week and smarten things up at weekends. Toffs plays host to Idols gay night which is held on a monthly basis. You'll find that all night clubs in York offer different entertainment on different nights throughout the week including dedicated student nights. There is often a range of events including guest djs, party nights and promotional drinks offers.

Nights out in York are supplemented by plenty of choice when it comes to bars. Some of the best bars in York have riverside views, stylish decor and a long list of drinks including cocktails and champagne. Cocktail bars include Bar 38 and Ha Ha Bar and the Vudu Lounge, members only bar, that mixes a cocktail bar atmosphere with dance nights at the weekends. Alongside these chain bars is the Slug & Lettuce that attracts a cross section of clientele for drinks and relaxed dining. Afterwards pop into the bar for drinks and light meals. York has several gay friendly bars. The Bay Horse on Gillygate is considered to be York's premier gay pub. You can pop in for a pint or try some of the meals during the day. At night it's a lively venue often with drink promotions to entice you in. Jack's Tapas Bar on Castlegate is a gay friendly bar serving up Spanish specialities. Near York Minster is the more traditional York Arms is also a gay friendly bar.

The Junction is another top rated York live music venue. It has a great atmosphere for gigs with a capacity for 250 and hosts regular live music and notable DJ events. The Duchess is run as a live music club and has a huge and varied listings programme. You'll also find a choice of live music in York pubs around the city. For comedy clubs in York try the weekly comedy night at the Basement Bar in the City Screen Picturehouse in York or the Comedy Gold night every 2nd and 4th Tuesday at The Golden Fleece near The Shambles. There are a couple of places for bingo in York including Mecca Bingo and Clifton Bingo Club.

Hull Nightlife

Nights out in Hull have fast developed into a Yorkshire nightlife hotspot. There are plenty of new and contemporary restaurants from a la carte to continental cuisine and café bars to choose from. Princes Quay in Hull city centre is a shopping centre over Princes Dock with a cinema and choice of restaurants.

For Hull nightclubs try the Sugar Mill, a converted warehouse that houses a huge clubbing venue with different zoned areas; alternatively ChiChi, a boutique nightclub, is home to Grapevine - Hull's popular midweek indie/rock and soul nights on a Tuesday and YoYo, Hull's original indie party on a Saturday.

There is a choice of casinos in Hull. Napoleon's has a branch of its casino and restaurant in Hull and there's a Gala Casino on Dock Street to complement the good choice of bingo halls in Hull. Both are free to join.
