Formerly a Coaching Inn in the 18th Century, The General Tarleton has been renovated to an exceptional standard to offer a memorable and enjoyable dining experience with the option to stay in one of the thirteen guest rooms for bed and breakfast. Situated in the quaint village of Ferrensby, you can enjoy sublime countryside views from this wonderful restaurant in North Yorkshire.

Our award winning chef, John Topham is passionate about food and works hard to create mouthwatering dishes which combine a modern flair with delicious flavours. This is a great place for all kinds of dining, whether it's a catch up with an old friend, some quality time with someone special or a family celebration. For extra special occasions, we also have a magnificent private dining room. You can relax comfortably in our sumptuous lounge with a pre-dinner cocktail or an after-dinner coffee and liqueur. Whatever your taste, you're sure to find something to satisfy your needs.

Unique Features

We take great pride in our extensive and creative menu as well as our choice of phenomenal wines. Here are some examples of our dishes, be warned that this may cause mouthwatering! Starters: Warm Duck Salad with chorizo, bacon lardons, croutons and salad leaves or Chicken Liver Parfait with toasted brioche and Cumberland sauce or Chilli Spiced Crispy Squid served on a bed of julienne peppers and coriander. Mains: Fish and Chips - a local boat cod coated in Black Sheep beer batter with real chips, tartare sauce and fresh mushy peas or Pan Fried Fillet of Wild Seabass served on a crisp vine tomato and olive tart with basil pesto or Trio of Yorkshire Dales Lamb roast rack, shoulder and belly croquettes, wilted spinach and garlic puree. Desserts: Chocolate Fondant with orange ice cream and mandarin jelly or Classic Lemon Tart with miniature mess and raspberry sorbet or Apple Strudel - apple and blackberry crumble and custard ice cream.
