Dating from 1180, and famous for its association with Sir Walter Scott's novel 'Ivanhoe'. This site high up on a hill was the base of a castle as far back as 1066. The current cylindrical keep is thought to date around 1180, with other buildings around the bailey dating in the 13th century.
The castle website provides full historical background, opening times and information on group bookings and children's parties. The castle ruins are more intact than most, which makes this castle particularly special.
The South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum, Airborne Road, Dakota Way, Doncaster Leisure Park, Doncaster. On display are numerous helicopters, a commercial light aircraft exhibition and a Sheffield Blitz exhibition - set on what was once a 2nd WW aircraft base.
