Holmfirth is also famous for the Bamforths, whose cheeky postcards were the first of their kind in the area, featuring saucy pictures depicting amusing seaside capers. Prior to this later business venture, the Bamforths were heavily involved in the area's blossoming film industry. In the early 1900s Holmfirth was bigger than Hollywood when it came to making movies and this is not forgotten today, with the iconic Holmfirth Picturedrome cinema carrying the tradition into the 21st century.
