The Railway Children & The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway

Alongside the rise of car use and the decline of freight use on the line the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway closed in 1962, but under the duress of passionate pressure groups and the Keighley & Worth Valley Light Railway Limited it opened again in 1968. This was just in time for the black and white Railway Children series filmed in the late 1960's also starring Jenny Agutter as Roberta, followed by the later colour film in 1972.

The Railway Children Walk & Oakworth Station

Oakworth Station is the key focus in the 1972 film 'The Railway Children' starring Jenny Agutter .

Oakworth Station has been lovingly restored and the Ladies Waiting Room is particularly impressive as a piece of nostalgia.

Key sites from the 1970s Railway Children film to watch out for along the Railway Children walk is the Doc's house alias the Bronte Parsonage, the Three Chimneys House - Bents House near Oxenhope Station, the shops where the children collect gifts all in Haworth Main Street, Mytholmes Tunnel and of course Oakworth Station - the main setting for the film. The Railway Children Walk leaflet is available at Keighley Station shop and Haworth Tourist Information centre. Stunning stills photography and details of the main sites in the film can be viewed via the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway webguide link right.
