The Nidderdale region, with gorges and beautiful countryside is perfect for the walker, working out from Pateley Bridge as a base.
This eastern area of the Yorkshire Dales holds indescribable diverse mix of natural beauty. In upper North Nidderdale you'll find the River Nidd flowing on the slopes of Great Whernside. Visit How Stean Gorge which is a sticking 80 foot ravine.
The Nidderdale area is also renowned for its reservoirs, especially Gouthwaite Reservoir which is home to many rare species of birds and wildlife.
Pateley Bridge is stunningly in bloom in summer (it's a two time winner of the 'Britain in Bloom' competition). Perfect as a base for exploring the Nidderdale area of the Dales, Patley Bridge's High Street is crammed with delightful country pubs and specialist shops. Pateley Bridge serves as centre for the annual Nidderdale festival in high summer/June and is home to the Nidderdale Museum housed in a Victorian workhouse.

Masham is also the home of Theakstons - this really is an area not to be missed by real ale lovers.
The picturesque town of Bedale has much to offer with historic buildings and churches as well as plenty of arts and craft shops.
Beautiful blooming Ripon is home to a 7th century Cathedral. Ripon International Festival attracts world-class musicians, not to mention its own race course and the restored canal basin.
