The 822 acre estate is a World Heritage site and one of the National Trust's most popular historic visitor attractions. The Abbey was founded as early as 1132 and grew into an important Cistercian Order.
Studley Royal Water Garden is more recent dating from 1718 and largely the work of onetime Tory MP for Ripon John Aislabie.
