BedaleEasily accessed off the A1 both Bedale in the Lower Wensleydale area and Masham on the edge of Nidderdale offer a host of attractions. Masham is a real centre for Yorkshire Ale. Two acclaimed Yorkshire brewereis are located here - Black Sheep and Theakstons. Both breweries offer guided tours, with on-site shops and plenty of opportunity to sample their fine Yorkshire real ale choice. Bedale is a gateway into Wensleydale and onto Hawes. The Big Sheep and Little Cow farm attraction in Bedale is a popular family attraction and the town itself is crammed with a superb choice of antique and specialist shops.
Masham is famous for the Black Sheep and Theakston Breweries, and they have visitor centres which are well worth a visit. Other events in Masham include the Sheep Fair.
In the Black Sheep brewery you can visit the fermenting room and there's a fully licensed Baar where a friendly sheep will pull you a pint. Or why not have your party or wedding there - in the brewery's words 'The Visitors Centre is an ideal 'ewe-nique' venue for corporate entertaining .. etc'.

Bedale in Lower Wensleydale is something different again. Here you'll find lots of antique and craft shops and a museum. Why not visit the working Crakehall Watermill or the 'Big Sheep Little Cow' where kids can see lots of animals close up and learn more about them. They make their own ice cream here as well from the milk of Friesland ewes and Dexter cows. www.farmattraction.co.uk

Just to the west of Bedale sit the ruins of Jervaulx Abbey (webguide right). The abbey was Cistercian and dates from the mid-12th century. A gift shop is on-site.
