Hawes is a popular base for walkers pushing along the stunning Pennine Way National Trail (268 miles) which weaves through the Yorkshire Dales on its way up to Hadrian's Wall and the Cheviots.

Hawes, Wensleydale, Aysgarth Falls & Askrigg
Upper Wensleydale centre Hawes is crammed with character. You're high up here in Hawes, the town is one of the highest market towns in the country. Prime Wensleydale walking territory surrounds the town, whilst in the centre you're certainly not short of delightful specialist Yorkshire shops, fine country pubs and tearooms and an excellent selection of attractions.
The award winning Dales Countryside Museum is here in Hawes. Within the museum you'll also find the Hawes National Park Centre. Other popular attractions in and around the town include the famous Wensleydale Creamery which is open to the public with visitor centre and cheese making demonstrations/tours on-site. Cheese is still handmade at the Wensleydale Creamery. Visit the Hawes Ropemaker too for demonstrations on rope making.
A short distance to the west of Hawes sees one of the stops on the scenic Settle-Carlisle Railway - Garsdale. The pretty little village of Askrigg is also well worth a visit, and was the one time centre before Hawes became the main base. Another of the Yorkshire Dales National Park Centres is situated east of Hawes at Aysgarth (off A684)close to the spectacular Aysgarth Falls. The Aysgarth Falls National Park Centre east of Hawes sits just off the A684 on the eastern edge of Aysgarth village. The Coppice Cafe is situated within the Centre.
