Grassington Tourist Information

Not by accident is Grassington Wharfedale's most popular village and convenient walking base for exploring both Wharfedale and pushing north into Nidderdale AONB. Grassington boasts a fine selection of country pubs, tearooms, restaurants and B&Bs. The Upper Wharfedale Folk Museum is within the town and nearby show caves offer superb climbing territory. Also popular in the area are outdoor pursuits horse rising, fly fishing on the River Wharfe and of course moorland and riverside walking. Grimwith Reservoir is just on Grassington's doorstep offering opportunity for windsurfing and sailing. (see the Yorkshire Dales Sailing Club's webguide right for details. They're based at Grimwith Reservoir - the largest inland sailing venue in all Yorkshire!)

Grassington is always a popular destination, especially in the last two weeks of June when it hosts a vibrant festival. At the Upper Wharfedale Folk Museum you can explore the history of mining in the area.www.grassington-festival.org.uk

Grassington National Park Centre is located just near the village centre. A large car park is adjacent. The Grassington Park Centre is particularly comprehensive and one of the park's largest so well worth calling in here for guides, leaflets and maps. Tel. 01756 751690

Grassington Shopping and Festivals

Arts and Crafts shops and specialised shopping abound in Grassington. There's an annual festival at the end of June and at the end of the year Grassington goes Dickensian - with musicians, costume and street entertainers.

Grassington has a lead mining and farming history. Nearby Kilnsey hosts a large agricultural show at the end of August annually. www.grassington.uk.com

Wharfedale Walking

The Dales Way zig-zags across the Wharfedale area, offering rolling hills and gentle walking taking in old priories and churches. The River Wharfe, Kilnsey Crag and Coniston Dib are just some of the scenic sights on offer.
